We are people of great longing. And we are people of great grief. And while our minds are far more easily drawn to pay attention to our griefs than to our longings, we are still reluctant to be with them, given how painful our grief is. And yet, our response to grief in all of its forms is the very substance out of which the most durable, hopeful beauty is created in the life of the family, our children, and our communities. This workshop will explore the interpersonal neurobiological mechanics of grief, why it matters that we are familiar with them, and what it means to directly apply our knowledge of these dynamics to those settings in our lives where our grief resides on the way to creating and becoming outposts of goodness and beauty in the world.
